Day

Torres del Paine – Lago Toro Hike

Approximately 5 hours walking

Transfer by van to Torres del Paine National Park, a journey that takes you through the picturesque landscapes of typical Patagonian ranches. Along the way, we’ll pause at the stunning Mirador Lago Toro, the largest lake in the region, where you’ll indulge in views of the imposing Torres del Paine Massif.

Our hike begins directly from this viewpoint, ascending a trail toward the southeast. As we climb, we’ll enter a pristine forest of Lenga and Notro (Firebush) trees. The gradual ascent rewards us with sweeping views of Lake Toro and its islands to the south, along with a panoramic vista of mountain ranges and vibrant native forests teeming with flowers and birds, particularly in the summer months.

Winding through ancient trees and tranquil lagoons, the trail unveils one of the most spectacular sights in the park: a commanding view of the Paine Massif, Glacier Grey, the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, and the Serrano Valley. From here, we begin our descent, crossing a series of hidden lagoons and opening onto a ridge adorned with pre-Andean shrublands and Lenga forests. Along the way, keep an eye out for the striking Magellanic Woodpecker, set against the backdrop of the Serrano Valley.

A short 15-minute hike from the ridge brings us to our base beside the serene Serrano River, where the day’s adventure concludes and we rest and reset for tomorrow’s magnificence.

Hiking Torres Del Paine - Guided by Nature

Day
3

Torre Base

Approximately 8-10 hours walking

After a hearty breakfast, we take a comfortable seat in our van for a journey to the eastern corner of Torres del Paine National Park.

Today’s adventure starts with a thrilling two-hour hike into the Ascencio Valley, pausing at Refugio Chileno to take in the epic surroundings. From there, we continue through a verdant forest of Lenga trees, eventually reaching the glacial moraine.

The final ascent rewards this huge effort: we get a front row view of the park’s iconic three granite towers. These towering monoliths are a testament to nature’s grandeur and will leave you speechless before reaching for your camera to capture this pinch-me moment.

The descent, easier but equally scenic, takes about four hours as we make our way back to the trailhead. From there, we’ll return to our base by the Serrano River for a feast of regional fare and a well-earned rest.

Day
4

Grey Glacier, Ice Hiking and Kayaking

Approximately 3-4 hours walking

Our day begins with a transfer to Pudeto, where we’ll board a catamaran to cross the stunning Pehoe Lake. On the far shore, we’ll embark on an 11-kilometre trek along Lake Grey, offering gorgeous views of Glacier Grey and its floating icebergs. From the glacial lookout and lakeshore, the striking azure hue of the icebergs beautifully illustrates the origin of the name Torres del Paine. In the language of the Tehuelche people, Paine translates to "blue".

After the hike, we head to the Bigfoot Patagonia basecamp on Lake Grey’s northeast shore for a kayaking experience like no other: we paddle alongside the icebergs and, conditions permitting, venture closer to the eastern face of Glacier Grey, soaking in the scenery that for an incredible moment, we feel a part of.

Tonight, we’ll stay in a traditional hiking refugio near the trail. Enjoy the cozy atmosphere and unwind with a hearty Chilean dinner at the in-house restaurant. Please note, accommodations are in gender-separated shared rooms.

Grey Glacier and Ice Hiking

Approximately 5 hours walking

After breakfast, our guides will brief everyone on the Ice Hiking adventure, covering the route, tour duration, and equipment adjustments for safety and comfort.

We’ll then board a zodiac boat for a zippy ride to the west side of Grey Glacier. Upon arrival, a walk across a nunatak leads us to the glacier where we step onto follows another safety briefing.

For the next three hours, we’ll explore the cracks, rivers, lagoons, and tunnels of this epic ice mass. Treading this floating, aglow piece of earth is truly transcendent and a top moment of our journey.

We return quickly by zodiac to base camp for lunch, then board a catamaran for a more leisurely crossing of Grey Lake, sailing past more enormous icebergs and cruising close to the glacier’s face, where cocktail hour looks like: pisco sours served with glacial ice!

After toasting the ice, we transfer to Kau Rio Serrano lodge for feasting and reflections of an extraordinary day.

From there, a trek through the French Valley unveils progressively impressive scenes including hanging glaciers and a natural amphitheatre of granite walls and spires, etched by time and elegantly arranged.

The bold turquoise of Lake Pehoe is a feature of the return catamaran trip that takes us back to base beside the Serrano River for a celebratory final feast together.
