Every real hiker knows the direct route usually means the least interesting one: the trail built for people passing through, not people who came to see and savour it properly.
The Long Way Around is Guided by Nature's route through Slovenia's Julian Alps, the Adriatic coast of Croatia, and the wine hills of Italy...Slovenia is a country most travellers still haven't worked out - or walked the way it deserves: slowly, in an intimate group, with someone who actually knows the trail leading the way.
Book The Long Way Around and we'll put $300 toward your accommodation before the trip even begins. Land a day or two early, get over your flight properly and walk the first morning fully rested rather than recovering.
There is a big difference between a path built for a view and a path that earns you one. This isn't a paved lookout with a car park at the end. It's the Vršič Pass, the Soča Valley, the ridge above Lake Bohinj - trails with actual elevation, real distance, and a guide who's strolled them for years, not memorised a script.
Eleven days. Sixty-eight kilometres. That's not a lack of ambition, it's the whole idea. You've earned the right to walk a country properly instead of ticking it off. Time to actually feel the Karst limestone underfoot, linger on a delicious farmhouse lunch and bask in the particular green of the Soča River.
Rest easy in the knowledge that a support van is behind you with water, snacks and your bag if you need it. Enjoy boutique hotels and mountain huts with a proper bed at the end of each day and chef-led dinners paired with the region's own wine. You've done the rushed trip with the an early bus and the questionable hostel. This isn't that trip, this is walking with presence and purpose.
Eleven days, ten nights, walking through three countries that were never meant to be rushed:
Ljubljana — a walking exploration of the old town's Art Nouveau streets, and a hands-on Slovenian food tour to start as you mean to go on.
Istria, Croatia — a moderate hike through Učka Natural Park's scenic hilltop towns and Adriatic island views.
The Soča Valley — the Vilenica Cave, a farmer's lunch, and a hike to Kozjak Waterfall through one of Europe's most striking valleys.
The Julian Alps & Vršič Pass — the highest mountain pass in the range, and a genuinely demanding, yet rewarding climb to Slemenova Špica.
Lake Bohinj & Triglav National Park — glacial lake walking, the Komna Plateau, and a night at a mountain hut you'll actually want to remember.
Lake Bled — the steep climb to Ojstrica for the view every photo of Slovenia is trying and failing to capture, then back to Ljubljana for a final shared dinner.

I was given the opportunity to learn every day. I always knew what was happening, and the guides helped us engage with local culture in a way I never could have on my own.
